WHAT IS A BROADBAND LIGHT (BBL) LASER?

BroadBand Light is the most advanced form of intense pulsed light (IPL) technology.  IPL therapy is a non-invasive light-based treatment that uses a wide spectrum of wavelengths to rejuvenate the skin.

BBL is a precise treatment that delivers consistent results because it uniformly treats the deep layers of skin tissue.  It restores the natural beauty of the skin and leaves it clear, smooth, and vibrant.

BBL is a quick, virtually painless procedure that can be performed almost anywhere on the body.  Common treatment areas include the face, neck, and chest.

What Can BroadBand Light Be Used To Treat

BroadBand light can be used to treat multiple skin concerns including acne, uneven texture, vascular lesions such as rosacea and spider veins, and pigmented lesions such as age spots and freckles.

BBL is also an effective anti-aging treatment.  BBL Forever Young targets visible signs of aging and sun damage.    Regular use of BBL is known to promote youthful-looking skin because it targets aging at a  cellular level.

BBL technology is also used for hair removal.  BBL Forever Bare uses revolutionary hair removal technology to get rid of unwanted hair on the face and body.

How Does BroadBand Light Work?

The BBL handpiece emits bursts of high-intensity light that gently heats the targeted skin tissue.   Depending on the condition being treated, the heat from the BBL device is either absorbed by the pigmented cells, or the hemoglobin in the blood vessels.

If pigmented lesions are the target, the heat will break apart the pigment, and the fragments left behind will slough off within a few days of treatment.  If vascular lesions are being treated the heat will close off the blood vessels, and the remains of the vessels will be fully absorbed by the body over the following weeks.

The light energy delivered by the BBL device also stimulates new collagen fibers.  Collagen is necessary for maintaining the firmness and youthfulness of the skin because it strengthens the underlying structure.

When used for hair removal BBL targets the melanin pigment at the base of the hair follicle.  The heat damages the growth center of the follicle and stops hair growth.

Is There Any Downtime After BBL?

There is no downtime after BBL so patients are typically able to resume normal activities immediately.  There may be some redness and tenderness in the treated areas, but these symptoms usually subside within a few hours.   However, the skin will be very sensitive to the sun after BBL so patients must minimize sun exposure.

” My experience with Dr. Geer was amazing. She is so personable, informed, and engaged with patients. She genuinely seemed interested in getting to know me and went through my entire chart with me, making notes and getting clarifications. This is so rare these days, and with other doctors, I’ve had to reiterate information I had just written because they didn’t review it before meeting me. Dr. Geer is a 10/10 doctor, and I’ve already recommended her to several women in my network.”*
