ULTRASOUND EXAMINATIONS

Ultrasounds examinations are done in-office by our highly skilled ultrasound technician. It’s a safe, non-invasive way to diagnose causes of pain and detect potential health complications. The procedure uses sound waves to produce pictures of your body’s internal organs which will then be evaluated. It involves no radiation.

What is an Ultrasound Used for?

Ultrasound examinations are a useful way for your doctor to see and evaluate your body in real-time. The procedure helps us detect changes in size, shape, and appearance of your vital organs. Ultrasounds can also identify whether an object is solid or filled with fluid and show abnormal masses such as tumors.

At Best Self Medical Arts we use ultrasounds as our preferred diagnostic tool for the abdomen, gallbladder, kidneys, and pelvic region. A transvaginal ultrasound may be enlisted for a closer look at the uterus and ovaries.

What Will Happen During My Ultrasound?

Ultrasounds are done in-office and examinations often take less than 30-minutes to complete. To prepare, you’ll be asked to wear loose-fitting clothing for your exam. Depending on the area being examined, you may need to change into a gown.

In most cases, you will be positioned lying face-up on an examination table that can be tilted or moved. The technician will apply a warm water-based gel to the examination area before guiding a transducer handpiece over the area. Ultrasounds are extremely safe and generally comfortable.

After your ultrasound technician captures the desired images, they will wipe any residual gel away, and you’ll be free to redress. You can go about your normal activities immediately following your ultrasound.

What are the Benefits of Ultrasound Technology?

Ultrasound examinations are the ideal solution for diagnosis and early-detection for many soft tissue conditions that x-rays cannot address. Your doctor will review the images and is able to see and evaluate potential problems, letting her detect changes or abnormalities.

Exams are pain-free and do not require needles or injections. Ultrasound technology is the preferred method for monitoring of pregnant women and their babies.
